New Archival Backup Services
Customer use cases for reliable and more cost-effective preservation storage spurred our newest archival backup services for Islandora. They leverage Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3 and Glacier storage for the management of preservation files and associated metadata. Join our next webinar on Wednesday, January 25 at 12 pm EST to find out more.
The new archival backup services were originally developed and implemented for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. We’ll discuss their use case and how the services have evolved since implemented by a handful of other repository managers.
The services are designed to interact with two types of storage provided by AWS: S3 buckets and Glacier. The services maintain archival copies of infrequently accessed high-quality preservation files and metadata in S3 and Glacier, where storage costs less. The services provide repository managers the capability to restore individual objects or entire collections, in the Islandora administrative user interface, from AWS backups, as needed.
discoverygarden developer, Dan Aitken, will once again lead the discussion. Dan will provide technical and administrative details on how these new services protect precious digital content and have the potential to cut overall cloud storage costs by up to twenty-five percent.
The webinar is intended for all audiences and is categorized at an intermediary technical level.
